Wal-Mart Political Crossfire

If the Employee Free Choice Act makes its way through Congress it could mean that employees of non-union companies could hold unionization votes without secret ballot elections.  This spells big trouble for corporations like Wal-Mart who have openly disagreed with the bill.

In fact news has surfaced recently declaring that Wal-Mart has discouraged and even pressured their employees to vote against the probable Democratic nominee Barack Obama, who co-sponsors the bill.  However, a spokesman for Wal-Mart contradicted this according to the Associated Press:

A Wal-Mart spokesman says the company did discuss the bill with its employees, including what it sees as the negative impact. But he says the company isn’t calling on its employees to vote against supporters of the measure.

He says if anyone from Wal-Mart gave that impression, they were “wrong and acting without approval.”
